How My Garden is Growing After A Month

Curious about how my container garden has been going?

I'm definitely no green thumb, but fortunately, my plants seem to be showing progress thus far. It's been about 3 weeks since I planted my garden with lettuce, spinach, carrot, cucumber and bean seeds. (If you missed the post with step-by-step instructions on starting a container garden, catch up here.)

Since then, I've been documenting the growth of the various crops every couple of days.

It will still be a few more weeks before any will be able to harvest for food. In the meantime, here's a look at how my garden has been growing, crop by crop over the course of these first few days:

(I forgot to take a picture of the carrots on Day 6. Oops!)

(The spinach is the most lackluster of the crops, so far. I'm not sure why it's so spindly and sparse. I decided to plant a few more seeds in the empty places in hopes that we'll get a decent yield eventually!)

  3. @ Nonna - Thanks for the note! No problem about the mixed-up comments; I end up doing that same sort of thing myself all the time, always forgetting to log out of one account before signing into the next! Oh well!

  4. Looks great so far! I've never tried a container garden... maybe I'll have to start one up! I'd love to be able to grow my own lettuce and cucumbers, among other things. I'll be checking out your starting a container garden post soon. :)

  5. Thanks, Kristin! I'm hoping it turns out well. The only (successful!) gardening experience I have had was two summers when I tried growing some lettuce. It did end up growing...but only while I was gone on my honeymoon! Evidently I did a better job gardening when I was gone than when I was there tending to it :)

  6. I think I'm actually going to be able to comment now that I got a new computer - yay :)

This is so exciting! I love the idea of container gardening (or gardening in general), but I really lack the patience for it. I may try it again next summer though!
