Getting to Know Anna Mae Vintage
Jenny runs the Etsy shop Anna Mae Vintage, where you can find all sorts of handpicked vintage goods for your house and wardrobe. She was one of the first advertisers to sign up on Life Blessons, so I wanted to take some time to spotlight her shop so you can get an idea of what you'll find there as well as more about the kind woman who runs this shop.
(If you are interested in advertising on Life Blessons, I am currently accepting sponsors for August. You can find out details and rates here, and if you book three months at once, you'll get a 20% discount. Email me if you're interested.)
Here are some of my favorite items from Anna Mae Vintage that are, as of this posting, still available and for super reasonable prices. (Click on the photos to go to the sale page for each item.) Then keep reading for a fun interview that I did with Jenny where she dishes about what she looks for when she goes shopping, her tips for vintage shopping, and more.
Please tell us a little about yourself and why you started your Etsy shop.
I'm a twenty-something soon-to-be-graduated college girl who loves Jesus, books, redemption, and interesting objects. I love the process of giving old things (and people) new life, and I started my Etsy shop as an outlet for my thrifting passions!
Please tell us about the kinds of things folks will find for sale in your Etsy shop.
My Etsy shop has all kinds of good things from clothing to housewares to vintage luggage! When I'm on a thrifting adventure and feel drawn to a specific item, I always ask myself this question, "If this doesn't sell, would I keep it?" If the answer is yes, then I know I've found something good. The vintage items you'll find at Anna Mae Vintage are quality pieces of the past with lots of life left to live.
Is there a story behind any of your favorite vintage pieces?
I don't have any specific stories about a certain piece, but I love the stories that emerge during the thrifting process. I frequently go thrifting with my mom, and we always have WAY too much fun trying on all the vintage hats and making up little histories for specifically interesting pieces we come across.
Do you have any advice for how to incorporate vintage pieces (in your wardrobe or home) without making everything feel old and frumpy?
The first step toward incorporating vintage items into your wardrobe or home is to choose things and styles you like. If you don't like 1950's flowered tablecloths, don't choose them! Go for colors, textures, and styles that you love, and then they'll flow nicely with the rest of your decor or wardrobe. Just because something's vintage doesn't mean it has to be frumpy!
Do you have any dreams for the future of your Etsy shop?
I'd certainly love for Anna Mae Vintage to take off in such a way that it could become my day job! Also, I'm pursuing a life of counseling women who have been trafficked, so I'd love for Anna Mae Vintage to become some sort of an income for that ministry.

So it's not every day that I see a picture of one of my best friends on a blog of someone I've never actually met. I found your blog, Carmen, thanks to Jenny telling me about it and have been so blessed with your wisdom and encouraged by your posts.
